12/4/2011

I will be adding a lot of guitar improvising and licks that will be incorporated into solo sections and jazz parts of the piece. This might be a difficult task for live performing but it is worth experimenting with and making the song more original/creative.

We are working on getting everything to mix together and sound good. The styles of music are (so far) mixing great and we are looking forward to the product of our hard work

Today i have incorporated even MORE styles and creativity to our piece. It is still going along very well and I am excited to perform for the class. I have been inspired by Frank Sinatra and other talented jazz artists. The guitar and drums have been working well together and Whit's "flamingo" style with drumming is fitting in well.

Guitar parts have been going well, and I have all got the writing down. Many songs have been inspiring me lately especially ones blues and jazz riffs. Things have been going well and I can't wait to wrap it all up.

Nick McClurg- Inspiration 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55nAwmVLQSk

Cliffs of Dover is one of the fastest and upbeat guitar songs that has ever been played. It is very inspiring becasue it is only eric johnson playing guitar. The several moods and tones of the song bring it all together and I would like to put this kind of creative soloing into the song.

Whit Anderson-- Inspiration 2

This song, has one of the most epic beginnings of all time (In my opinion, of course). With a melotic lead guitar in 5/4 to start it off, then followed by rhythm guitar in 4/4, then followed by amplifing drums. This song brings all of the layering inspiration we need in the first minute and a half (before it turns into METAL).

Chicken Scratch--Kris Berg

I like this song for its choppy beginning and funky drums. The bass roles like none other and it all fits together beautifully. If we do incorporate horns into our song, chicken scrath will most definately be our inspiration.

Brand New Me-In Her Own Words

This song gave us inspiration to have certain overlapping rhythms and melodies that will enhance our musical fusion.

Whit Anderson-- Drumming

I have gotten to writing sheet music for our piece.
My goal is to have a choppy, yet funky beat that can accomidate the choppiness of the guitar/bass/(horns)
So far it is coming along well, and I am excited to hear the final piece.

Until next time,

10/17/2011

As I am learning more jazz chords, I have started to understand more about music theory and different ways I can apply this to my playing. There will be several sections in the song including rock, jazz, and alternative. It has been a fun project so far and i'm looking forward to moving on.

10/15/11

Have been transcribing some of the chords and solos of my guitar part. It is coming along very well. I am also creating new tones and melodies that will fit with the song nicely.

10/5/11

Today, we got down the chords we will use for the verses, bridges, chorus, and intro. I am going to come up with the rhythms that will be played by each instrument, and later Nick comes up with the notes he thinks will fit in with the rhythms.
We are looking to have a very layered piece that incorporates parts with straight 1/4 to 1/16 notes, while another layer has both triplets and quarter/sixteenth notes in it.
Very experimental, but very exciting.

Have some ideas down, going to try and work out of the box for our project.
